What does a Pharmacy Technician do?

The Pharmacy Technician assists the Pharmacist with the preparation of medications. Based on the Pharmacy Tech’s work location, responsibilities may include processing orders through the pharmacy computer system, entering patient information into the computer system, filling medication carts, and physically preparing drug products (doses) for a pharmacist’s review and final check prior to delivery to patient care areas.

Minimum education and experience

High school education or equivalent; including at least one of the following:

• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification within 30 days of completing the Pharmacy Technician University Program

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

To be successful in the role, the candidate must be detail-oriented; have strong keyboarding skills and be comfortable using a computer; and have math aptitude including a basic understanding of units of measure. The Pharmacy Tech works closely with both internal and external customers, candidates must have the ability to work as part of a team with good communication and customer service skills.

Days/hours

Days and hours will vary depending on location and may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Pay range

Pharm Tech Trainee: $17.00 – $22.10 Hourly

Certified Pharm Tech: $18.00 – $23.40 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
