What does a Senior Psychiatric Technician do?

The Senior Psychiatric Technician (Sr. Psych Tech) assists in the care of those who have mental illness. This includes working with nurses to provide a variety of treatment plans, to both groups and individuals. Treatment can include delivering care to patients and families in the form of role-playing and modeling. The Sr. Psych Tech may coordinate the work of a Nursing Assistant. The Sr. Psych Tech also participate in ongoing staff development.

Minimum education and experience

Associate of Applied Science degree in a Psychology or Sociology field and two to three years of behavioral experience, or equivalent.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently. Innovative with patient care. Flexible in thinking and approach.

Days/hours

This position requires day/evening/night/weekend and holiday availability.

• Strong Memorial Hospital – Psychiatry Units
• Emergency Department

Work environment

Patient interaction in a clinical setting.

Pay range

$17.00 – $22.10 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
