General I-94 info
Form I-94: Arrival/Departure Record
The I-94 Admission Record is issued to individuals who are granted status or admission to the U.S. in a nonimmigrant category.
For most travelers, the Form I-94 is issued as an electronic record which can be looked up online using your passport information. For travelers arriving through a land border (by car, bus, etc.), you may receive a printed I-94 card as well.
Access your I-94 and travel history online
The electronic I-94 record is made available immediately online. Check your information for accuracy promptly upon admission to the United States!
You will need to provide your name, birth date, and passport number and country to locate your electronic I-94 record. The system will then display your most I-94 admission information, including your I-94 admission number and most recent date of entry. Please contact ISO if you notice any errors with your information, including your biographic details, entry details, or duration of status, so we can provide guidance on how to request a correction.
Details for F-1 and J-1 travelers
For most categories, the expiration date is based on the scheduled activity or a maximum duration for initial entry in that status. However, for F or J entry, the I-94 record should show “D/S” for Duration of Status. This means that your status remains valid as long as you are maintaining a valid I-20 or DS-2019.
Print and carry your I-94
We recommend that you print this record and carry it with your other immigration documents while you are in the United States.
US Port of Entry stamp in your passport
After showing the necessary eligibility documents, your passport may also be stamped to mark the date and location of your admission. Often, the officer will provide a notation on that stamp with the category and expiration date of the nonimmigrant status you have been granted (see samples below). If provided, check this notation immediately for accuracy. It is much easier to make the necessary corrections at your Port of Entry upon arrival. If the officer writes a different category or forgets to stamp it at all, politely ask for them to review it and the officer will most likely correct the oversight immediately. Do not leave the Port of Entry with incorrect information recorded in your passport!
