Nicole S. Sampson appointed Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences

The University has announced that following a nationwide search, Nicole S. Sampson has been named University of Rochester’s Robert L. and Mary L. Sproull Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences, effective August 2023. Sampson has an extensive background in higher education and academia, having served as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Stony Brook University.
More about the position
Reporting to the Provost, the Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer for the School of Arts and Sciences, and will inspire the faculty, students, and staff to enhance the School’s global eminence as a scholarly and creative force. The Dean will be instrumental in leading the second-largest academic unit on campus to further the School’s and University’s reputation as a top-tier research institution.
Search committee
A search committee was convened to help in the search for this role, working closely with the search firm Isaacson Miller to vet qualified candidates and fill the position.
