In Memoriam: A Moment of Reflection

Posted May 7, 2024

An array of lit candlesThe Live the Six movement at the University of Rochester was born out of tragedy—the Tops shooting that occurred at 2:30 pm on May 14, 2022, when a racist individual killed 10 innocent victims. On the second anniversary, we honor their memory and acknowledge the pain and loss experienced by our neighbors in Buffalo. Let us pause for a moment of silence, a collective breath to remember those who are no longer with us. May these candles and this moment symbolize hope, healing, and unity and remind us of our shared responsibility to create a safe and supportive environment for everyone, regardless of their race, religion, or identity. Together, we choose love over hate, and we commit to ending racism. May their memory guide us toward a brighter, more compassionate future.

For more information about the Live the Six movement you can explore the University of Rochester’s Live the Six website. The movement is based on the idea that we are all interconnected and interdependent, and it encourages us to live our values everywhere. Let us continue to reflect, heal, and work toward positive change together.
