About Live the Six

About the movement

Supported by an education campaign bolstered by community engagement and in coordination with the University’s Strategic Plan, the values referred to in “LOVE: Live Our Values Everywhere” are the University’s Meliora and ICARE values. Live the Six is supported by University leadership at all levels of the institution.

How it all started

On May 14, 2022, we learned the shocking news that 10 people were killed and more wounded in a racially motivated mass shooting at a Tops grocery store in Buffalo, NY.

Live the Six was inspired by the Buffalo Bills football team’s “Choose Love” fundraising campaign in response to the mass shooting.

In solidarity, Wegmans stores began displaying signs that read “Stop Hate, End Racism, Choose Love.” Their bold call to action sparked an idea to bring the campaign to the University of Rochester.

With permission from the Buffalo Bill’s organization and Wegmans, we are building on their efforts by bringing the movement to the University of Rochester and making it meaningful for our community.
