Meliora Weekend FAQ

Meliora Weekend was founded in 2001 following the successful Sesquicentennial celebration of 2000. Designed for University of Rochester alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends, the weekend encompasses reunions, family weekend, and homecoming activities.

This year, Meliora Weekend will be held from Thursday, October 6 to Sunday, October 9.

Meliora Weekend truly has something for everyone! The schedule includes major speakers, entertainment, symposia and panel discussions, reunion events, sporting events, seminars, open houses, and much, much more.

A simulcast is a closed-circuit broadcast of an event in real time, in a different location than the event itself. We offer simulcasts of some of our most highly-attended events to be sure that all Meliora Weekend attendees have the opportunity to partake in the events of their choice.

Yes. This year, as we celebrate the close of The Meliora Challenge, we are thrilled to bring almost all events onto our River Campus. Due to a smaller seating capacity on campus, each registrant has the ability to purchase no more than 4 tickets to the weekend's Keynote Address with MSNBC's Morning Joe.

The Meliora Weekend Pass will help you enjoy your weekend to the fullest! Included in your registration, this wristband should be worn throughout the weekend to give you access to all non-ticketed events—including the following:

Friday, October 7

Saturday, October 8

Created especially for local residents and community members, the (585) Package offers admission into Saturday's Meliora Weekend activities and includes special benefits, such as:

  • Free admission to the Ben Folds Concert (first come, first served, on-site)
  • Access to the Meliora Village, featuring a food truck rodeo, along with a bounce house and face painting for the kids!
  • Convenient parking

The (585) Package also includes the Meliora Weekend Pass, a wristband that gives you access to all non-ticketed events throughout the weekend.

Registration information will be emailed to you in early summer and regularly updated on this website. We'll also provide a printable registration form, which you can use to mail your registration in. However, we encourage you to use this website to make your reservation for Meliora Weekend 2016. Registration closes on Friday, September 30 at noon (EDT).

To cancel reservations for you or a guest, you must submit a request in writing and email it to alumni@rochester.edu or fax it to 585.276.2623 by midnight on September 25, 2016 for a refund (minus a $10 processing fee). No refunds will be given after September 25.

Yes, but you may miss out! We strongly encourage advance registration as many of the weekend's events will sell out.

Say it ain’t so! If you must cancel all or part of your Meliora Weekend 2016 reservation, please do so by midnight on September 25, 2016 and we’ll provide you with a refund (minus a $10 processing fee). Due to catering and logistical commitments, no refunds will be given after this date.

To request a cancellation, please email alumni@rochester.edu or fax your written request to 585.276.2623.

Yes! The message board located at River Campus Registration in Wilson Commons, Hirst Lounge is the place to leave notes for classmates or friends, or post messages about buying or selling event tickets.

Seating at all events is limited. Please arrive at least 20 minutes early for all free events to minimize the possibility that venue seating will reach capacity before your arrival. We will make every effort to ensure that everyone who wishes to see a speaker is able to do so. Ticket holders who do not arrive within 10 minutes of show time may have their seats made available to those waiting in the no-ticket line.

Yes. Once you arrive on campus, parking staff can direct you to the closest available handicap parking space. You must have a government-issued handicap parking sticker in order to utilize these spaces. If you request handicap parking when you register, we’ll provide you with more information closer to the weekend.

We've got you covered! Shuttle service is provided to and from many Meliora Weekend hotels, as well as select off-campus events, hotels, and the River Campus. However, transportation is not available from the airport to River Campus.

On the River Campus, staffed golf carts will be available for guests who need assistance.

As a courtesy to speakers and other guests, please silence all mobile devices while attending lectures, discussions, and performances throughout Meliora Weekend.

The University of Rochester is committed to making its campuses accessible to persons with disabilities, however at this time, not all areas are fully accessible. Please contact us if you have specific needs and we will assist you. We'll also have maps of ADA accessibility at on-site registration during the weekend.

Campus visitors are invited to use the University of Rochester guest wireless Internet access during Meliora Weekend. Connect to the network called UR_RC_Guest in your wireless connections manager. If you need help, please contact the IT help desk at (585) 275-2000 or email univIThelp@rochester.edu for technical assistance. This is an unsecured network. Please run appropriate local security measures as needed.

During Meliora Weekend, staff photographers will be working at various events. Photos taken at these events may be used for marketing and advertising purposes in print, online, and in multimedia productions. If you do not wish to be photographed at an event, please contact a staff member in the event's registration area.

Unless noted, the general dress code for the weekend is casual attire. We strongly advise you to bring an umbrella and suitable clothing for Rochester's variable weather!
