#4: Meet the artist behind video installation inspired by Frederick Douglass

The Memorial Art Gallery will host a “Meet the Artist: Isaac Julien in Conversation with John G. Hanhardt” on Sunday, March 3. John G. Hanhardt, senior consulting curator of media arts, will moderate the conversation about Isaac Julien’s commission for the museum, Lessons of the Hour—Frederick Douglass, a multiscreen film and video installation inspired by the life of Rochester native Frederick Douglass. Julien’s installation uses both analogue and digital technologies and he describes the exhibition as a “staging of history seen through a contemporary lens.” The exhibition will be on view through May 12.  The talk on Sunday begins at 2 p.m. Admission to the museum is free for University faculty, staff, and students with ID.

#5: Spend an evening listening to classical music or classic pop
