Paul Levy

Paul Levy has been reappointed as Charles Ayrault Dewey Professor of Medicine and chair of the Department of Medicine. The appointments, which were approved by the Board of Trustees in January, extend through June 30, 2016.

Levy joined the Rochester faculty in 1989 and in 1992 was appointed as director of Clinical Services in the Pulmonary and Critical Care Unit at Strong Memorial Hospital. Four years later, he was named associate chair for clinical affairs in the Department of Medicine. He was promoted to vice chair in 2003. He was named chair of the department in 2010, after serving as acting chair for a year.

Levy has played an instrumental role in developing and implementing new programs within the Department of Medicine. Under his leadership, the inpatient medical service more than doubled in size and key initiatives were launched to enhance quality and patient safety. He has also provided expertise to the Department and the Medical Center community through his work in regulatory compliance.

Levy earned his medical degree from Ohio State University in 1982. He completed an internal medicine residency at Strong Memorial Hospital, where he also served as chief resident in internal medicine, and a fellowship in pulmonary critical care at Rochester.
