On May 10, the University, in collaboration with West Health, will co-host the third annual d.health Summit, a national forum for healthcare leaders, entrepreneurs, technology firms, policy makers and senior care advocates to exchange ideas, create new relationships, and foster disruptive technological and process innovations to improve the lives of the nation’s aging population.
d.health Summit 2017: Successful Aging 2030 will be held at The New York Academy of Sciences, at the World Trade Center in New York City.
Underpinning this year’s theme are a selection of topics that discuss the future of medicine, technology, and healthcare policy as they relate to aging Americans.

For the first time, the University of Rochester-developed Summit will be co-hosted by West Health, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enabling seniors to successfully age in place, with access to high-quality, affordable health and support services that preserve and protect their dignity, quality of life and independence.
“It will take close collaboration and urgent action from a range of stakeholders to ensure our seniors can successfully age in America,” said Summit Co-chair Shelley Lyford, president and CEO of West Health, which includes an applied medical research institute, policy center and private foundation solely funded by philanthropists Gary and Mary West. “We are proud to collaborate on this important meeting as seniors need innovative thinking now to ensure access to the services and supports they require.”
“With more than 10,000 Americans turning 65 every day, we know that our current healthcare system and our country as a whole are not prepared for this growing and costly demographic shift,” said Abraham (Avi) Seidmann, Xerox Professor of Computers and Information Systems and Operations Management at the Simon Business School, and Summit co-chair.
“This year’s Summit will identify the foundational, system-wide changes needed to properly address the unique and specific healthcare needs of seniors by 2030, and the role of technology, finance and policy will play to accelerate this sweeping transformation,” added Summit co-chair Ray Dorsey, professor of neurology at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
