University Statement on Recent ACJC Ruling

College Dean of Students Matthew Burns released the following statement on the ACJC ruling:

“Recently, students at the University of Rochester examined the role and place of certain gender-specific organizations within the Students’ Association, an umbrella student organization that represents undergraduates.

“The All Campus Judicial Council (ACJC), which is comprised of undergraduates in the College, determined that these organizations operated outside the bounds of the Students’ Association’s non-discrimination guidelines. The ACJC finding relates only to student-controlled funding and services, and does not have any implications for the existence of any student organization at the university. No student organization has been banned. Student government leaders have committed to reviewing this issue in the coming academic year.”
