In recognition of the 100th anniversary of Poland’s regained independence, the Skalny Center for Polish and Central European Studies at the University of Rochester is launching this year’s Polish Film Festival this Saturday with five films reflecting the country’s history. The titles of the films, along with synopses and a detailed schedule, can be found on the Skalny Center’s Polish Film Festival 2018 site.
“These films show the history of Poland during various periods,” says Bozenna Sobolewska, administrative assistant at the Skalny Center. “That includes Poland under partitions, World War II, and the post-war Stalinist period.”
The movies were selected by the Polish Filmmakers Association, which has been presenting the series on four continents throughout the year. According to the association, “The idea behind the project is to disseminate knowledge of Polish art and history in the international arena by presenting films of outstanding artistic quality.”
The five films will be followed by screenings of more contemporary movies later this fall.
