They’ll receive up to three years of support to pursue doctoral or research-based degrees.
Fifteen University of Rochester students and alumni have been offered National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships, part of a federally sponsored program that provides up to three years of support for US students pursuing doctoral or research-based degrees in STEM, STEM education, and social science fields.
Six current students and nine alumni will represent Rochester. Nine current students and five alumni receive honorable mention.
Candidates apply the year before entering graduate school or during the first two years of graduate degree programs and must demonstrate scholarly promise and leadership potential.
“Working with undergraduates and recent alumni on the application is an ongoing priority because we know that Rochester has a deep pool of talent that can compete well for this opportunity,” says Belinda Redden, director of the Student Fellowships Office. “We know that whatever the applicant’s result, completing such a challenging application so early in their graduate-school trajectory will prove to be of immense benefit as they progress in their studies and professions. Students often tell us how valuable the process was to their graduate applications and other competitive opportunities they pursued.”
