Green will report to incoming Provost David Figlio in his new role beginning August 1.

Anthony (Tony) Green, chief of staff to President Sarah C. Mangelsdorf, has been named vice provost for academic finance and planning at the University of Rochester. In this new capacity, Green will report to incoming Provost David Figlio and will work closely with the Office of Administration and Finance to facilitate strategic planning and provide analytical support for schools, departments, and academic programs.

Figlio says Green’s top priorities will include developing and executing strategy-driven academic finance systems, budget and revenue modeling, cross-divisional business plans, and supporting mission-driven enrollment growth. “Our overarching objective is to create the conditions under which our faculty, staff, and students can do their best work, and we intend to build and execute an academic finance model that supports this goal,” Figlio says. “Tony’s extraordinary expertise at identifying opportunities and building collaborative strategies across departments and schools will serve us well as we move toward operating as one University. I’m excited to start working with him.”

President Mangelsdorf says she has come to rely on Green’s excellent experience and administrative skills, and that his efforts in the Office of the Provost will provide critical financial support to the academic units of the University. “I will be very sad to lose Tony as my Chief of Staff, but ensuring financial growth and stability to support our overall research and education mission is one of the most important priorities we have as an institution. Tony’s financial acumen and deep understanding of our University will be a tremendous asset,” Mangelsdorf says. “I am looking forward to working closely with Tony and Provost Figlio to ensure we make the most of our resources to create new and exciting opportunities across the University.”

Green’s new role is effective August 1. A search is currently underway to fill the position of President Mangelsdorf’s chief of staff.
