Statement from University leadership about the protests in Iran

The violent suppression of protests in Iran decrying the death of Mahsa Amini while in police custody has focused the world’s attention on injustices and inequities in contemporary Iranian society. The fact that much of this suppression has been directed at university campuses in Iran has particular resonance with us here at the University of Rochester.

We are committed to supporting all members of the University community who have been affected by these events. The Office for Global Engagement has provided resources to students and scholars who may be impacted by current events in Iran, and is available to anyone seeking support.

Women’s rights are human rights. Freedom of expression is a foundational tenet of universities around the world. We stand in solidarity with those in Iran and elsewhere who stand up for equity and speak out against injustice.
