UR fall concert series features Vic Mensa and Asher Roth

WHAT: Hip-Hop artist Vic Mensa, along with special guest Asher Roth, will make a stop at the University of Rochester to perform a set after a European tour with Danny Brown.

TIME, DATE, PLACE: 9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, Douglass Dining Hall, on the University of Rochester’s River Campus.

ABOUT: Chicago native Vic Mensa is an independent rap artist who recently began a solo career after the breakup of his rap-rock band Kids These Days. His debut mixed tape INNANETAPE (2013) received a very positive critical response, and Complex Magazine named it one of the top 50 best albums of 2013 for its soulful and unexpected sound. Mensa has collaborated with many well-known artists including Disclosure and J. Cole, and he is one of the cofounders of the SAVE MONEY Chicago rap collective along with Chance the Rapper. His latest single “Down on My Luck” reached the top 40 in the UK charts, and he will release his first full length EP Street Lights later this year.

Asher Roth is best known for his hit single “I Love College”, which reached number 12 on the US Billboard Music Charts. Roth was also nominated for an MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist and Best Hip Hop video in 2009. His music takes influences from Jay-Z and Eminem, and he tends to incorporate classic rock and acoustic guitars into his rap to reflect on his laid back California lifestyle. Roth has done multiple tours around the country with bands such as Blink-182 and Kid Cudi, and he is currently working on an EP collaboration with Nottz Raw and Travis Barker.
