Yellowjacket weekend brings Michael Ian Black to Rochester
Comedians Ron Funches, Nick Vatterott, and Michael Ian Black will perform this weekend for students and the Rochester community as part of Yellowjacket Weekend, which celebrates the start of the academic year.

College freshmen meet Rochester on #WilsonDay14
The incoming freshmen class will discover what Rochester has to offer and explore the many ways to get involved in their surrounding neighborhood during the 26th annual Wilson Day on Thursday, Aug. 28. Over 1,350 students will garden, paint, meet with senior citizens, help organize school supplies, and learn more about their new community.
University of Rochester welcomes Class of 2018
More than 1,300 freshmen from more than 75 countries will move in to the River Campus and Eastman School of Music beginning Monday, Aug. 25. Move-in Day is an event featuring a cappella singing groups, the University Pep Band, and other student groups entertaining and welcoming the new class to their new home in Rochester.
University ranked among top ten ‘Best Colleges for Food’
The University’s dining services has been ranked 6th on the 2014 list of 75 Best Colleges for Food by the online publication The Daily Meal. In addition to the quality of the food, the rankings were determined by the “food scene of the surrounding area,” as well as nutrition, sustainability, accessibility, events, uniqueness, and “the overall quality of the dining experience.”
Effecting change, one Urban Fellow at a time
Mayor Lovely Warren will recognize the Urban Fellows for their work in a variety of service projects, from marketing health programs and planning events for youth to fostering community and connecting businesses with vacant storefronts.
Rochester students recognized for civic engagement
A closing ceremony for five Rochester Youth Year Fellows and 17 Rochester Urban Fellows is scheduled for Wednesday, July 30, in City Hall. The Fellows—22 undergraduates and recent college graduates from Rochester-area colleges—have spent from 10 weeks up to a year engaging in service projects and learning about urban issues in and around Rochester.
Rochester grad recipient of Rotary Global Grant Scholarship
The first Rochester graduate to earn this scholarship, Jordan Shapiro ’14 will use the grant to pursue a master’s degree at Aberystwyth University in Wales.
Mock trial concludes Youth Legislative Session for Latino students
150 high school students from across the country are gathered in Rochester this week for the National Hispanic Institute’s Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session (LDZ). Students will debate policies related to education, social inequality, and economics, among other topics.
