The associate provost for academic administration and chief assessment officer has been voted as president-elect of the Association for the Assessment of Learning in Higher Education (AALHE).

University Research Awards for 2018-19 have been awarded to 15 projects ranging from an analysis of the roles of prisons in the Rochester region, to a new approach to genome editing, to new initiatives for advanced materials for powerful lasers.

Each year Arts, Sciences & Engineering and the School of Medicine and Dentistry recognize outstanding research and dissertations by PhD students.

University President Richard Feldman said, “Joe Abrams and Liz Bruno are already engaged with important efforts at the University, and I look forward to working more closely with them in the future.”

Area residents will have greater access to UR Medicine wellness programs and clinical services at 17 YMCA of Greater Rochester locations.

Soledad O’Brien, award-winning journalist, speaker, and author, will be the keynote speaker for the University of Rochester’s 18th Meliora Weekend, which runs October 4–7, 2018. Registration begins at noon on Wednesday, July 25.

The University was selected as the “Most Proactive University Career Services Team” by the Global University China Career Union (GUCCU) and Lockin China. This award recognizes active cooperation with Chinese enterprises through strong job-seeking initiatives.

Awards for outstanding contributions of distinguished leaders, educators and humanitarians will be presented at the 168th Commencement ceremonies on May 18, 19, and 20, and at the Simon Business School ceremony on June 10.

Each spring the University celebrates the outstanding staff members who have demonstrated significant and longstanding contributions to the University with the Witmer Awards, Meliora Awards, and Community Service Awards.

Two University of Rochester faculty members will be in India next fall, and a third will be in London after receiving Fulbright Scholar awards.
