Public Safety leadership requested a review of current policy to consider an amendment allowing supervisors to use their judgement to respond to any campus area when a rapid response is required for life preservation.

Ignacio Franco, assistant professor of chemistry and physics, has been selected as a winner of the OpenEye Outstanding Junior Faculty Award for fall 2017 by the American Chemical Society.

The professor and chair of the Department of Linguistics succeeds Richard Feldman, who served as dean of the College for the past decade, and will begin his five-year term on July 1, pending approval by the Board of Trustees.

“I want our center to touch the life of every University of Rochester undergraduate,” says Joan Shelley Rubin, who was installed as the inaugural Ani and Mark Gabrellian Director of the Humanities Center in May.

Since shortly after the University was founded in 1850, its students and alumni have served in wartime. Some have paid the ultimate price, and their legacies are etched into the walls, the memorials, and the fabric of everyday life at the University.

Anderson will formulate and implement a robust fundraising and relationship-building program for the Medical Center.

“Each newly elected member has a deep affinity for the University and its mission,” said Board Chair Danny Wegman. “We are very fortunate to have them serve.”

The seven trustees have served on the Board for a combined 96 years across three University presidencies, supporting the creation of numerous new facilities, scholarships, professorships, and other initiatives.

Richard Feldman arrived at the University as an assistant professor of philosophy in 1975 and is now stepping down from his role as Dean of the College. “All the things beyond the classroom that contribute to the students’ experience have really made an impression on me.”
