The European Geosciences Union awarded its 2017 Petrus Peregrinus Medal to John Tarduno, a professor of geophysics, in recognition of his research on the evolution of the early Earth’s magnetic field.

Steven Piantadosi, an assistant professor of brain and cognitive sciences, was recognized as one of this year's outstanding psychological scientists in the early stages of their post-PhD research career.

The University will resume regular operations and scheduled activities tomorrow, Thursday, March 16.

Tree Campus USA is a national program through the Arbor Day Foundation that honors colleges and universities that have a commitment to effective urban forest management and engaging staff and students in conservation goals.

Tuition for undergraduates in the College will increase 3.7 percent to $51,090 for the 2017-18 academic year. Room and board will increase 3.4 percent to $15,324. Tuition for the Eastman School of Music will also increase 3.7 percent to $51,440. Undergraduate financial aid will increase 4.3 % over the current year forecast to $138.1 million.

River Campus’ newest residence hall, which will overlook the Genesee River from its east side, will also bear its name. Scheduled to open this fall, Genesee Hall will feature housing for approximately 150 freshmen, as well as meeting rooms, a new locker room facility, and training rooms for athletic programs.

His seminal contributions to the field helped attract graduate students to the Laboratory for Laser Energetics. He died February 5, 2017, at age 92.

Mavrinac is a recognized leader in the creation of inspiring learning spaces and the development of digital services. In her first five years here, she has led two major space renovations in Rush Rhees Library—the creation of Evans Lam Square, and the forthcoming iZone.

Results from the first University-wide Diversity Engagement Survey (DES) will serve as a baseline to inform the work of the Presidential Diversity Council, which was established by President Seligman in November 2016.

The Honorable Jimmie V. Reyna ’75, Circuit Judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, is the first Latino to serve on the country’s second highest court. He will be bestowed the Charles Force Hutchison and Marjorie Smith Hutchison Medal, the University’s highest alumni award.
