Professor Danielle Benoit and her students will be serving lemonade and explaining their work on childhood cancer therapies this weekend as part of a national effort organized by Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which has helped fund her research.

Narayana Kocherlakota, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis and a leading scholar of monetary and financial economics, has been appointed as the inaugural Lionel W. McKenzie Professor of Economics. His appointment is effective January 1, 2016.

The Susan B. Anthony Center has selected five students to receive the 2015 Susan B. Anthony Urban Scholar Award, a $1,000 scholarship given to current and former students in the Rochester City School District enrolled or planning to enroll in college or trade school.

The new building will be located at the current midway point of Hutchison Rd., in between Hopeman and Hylan buildings. As part of the overall construction plan, Hutchison Rd. will no longer be a thoroughfare and will be permanently reduced to only provide access into the Wallis Hall parking lot and Dewey Parking Lot.

Stauderman is an experienced leader in external relations, institutional positioning and issues management. Her career in higher education of more than 20 years has included roles in communications, alumni relations, annual fundraising, and student affairs.

Laura Ballou, assistant dean of sophomores and director of Wilson Commons, is the inaugural recipient of the Distinguished Contributions to Undergraduate Learning Award. The new award has been established to honor a staff member in Arts, Sciences & Engineering who has made a significant difference in the educational experience of students.

His career at the University spans more than 45 years and five Rochester presidents. Just after graduation, Paprocki began work in the College, first serving in academic support and counseling positions, and later advancing to budgeting and planning work.

The University Board of Trustees elected Rochester business and civic leader Danny Wegman as board chairman-elect at its May meeting, to begin a five-year term following the May 2016 Board meeting. Wegman, CEO of Rochester-based Wegmans Food Markets, Inc., has served as a University trustee for more than 15 years.

The d.health Summit will provide a platform for national leaders in public policy, health care, finance and the high-tech industry to assemble for a daylong discussion of the impact of these forces on the delivery of care for aging Americans.

Strem, who recently joined Public Safety from the Rochester Police Department, received the Hometown Heroes award for her efforts to bring greater awareness to the issue of domestic violence and greater support to victims and families.

On the evening of April 13, at the intersection of McLean Street and Wilson Boulevard on River Campus, Ocieka Bakou, a local Xerox employee, selflessly intervened to prevent a violent crime from progressing into a possible tragedy.

The University of Rochester will recognize the outstanding contributions of distinguished leaders and scholars by bestowing honorary degrees, the Eastman Medal, Hutchison Medals for exemplary service, and awards for scholarship and teaching. Deborah Bial, founder and president of the Posse Foundation, will receive an honorary doctor of humane letters degree and deliver the College’s commencement address on May 17.
