Jonathan Burdick, vice provost and dean of college admission, was presented with the Inclusion, Access and Success award by the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) at its national conference in Columbus, Ohio, earlier this month.

Established in 1984, the Inclusion, Access and Success Award honors individuals who have been instrumental in making post-secondary education opportunities available to historically underrepresented students.

Burdick was recognized for leading the University in “identifying, attracting, counseling, assisting, enrolling, and retaining students from all backgrounds and perspectives.” Under Burdick’s leadership, the institution has partnered with The Posse Foundation, Raise.me, Chicago Scholars, College Horizons, and the National Hispanic Institute, all organizations devoted to helping underrepresented students pursue post-secondary opportunities. Additionally, the University established the Rochester Promise—providing scholarships to Rochester City School District graduates.

“Jon has opened doors to countless students who previously did not have access to higher education,” NACAC President Phil Trout said in presenting the award. “He has made college attainable for socioeconomically diverse students, regardless of where they are from, specifically recruiting high-achieving low-income students from Africa. He shows us what the world can look like when we include local, national, and global voices in our community. He sends a strong message about the transformative power of education as a way to transform local communities here and around the world.”

Burdick joined the University in 2003 and administers all aspects of the admissions process for the College.
