In this episode of the Quadcast, University of Rochester professor of political science Randy Stone talks about his findings that indicate undue corporate influence at the World Bank. 

More than 275 students study abroad in more than 50 countries through programs offered by the Center for Education Abroad. And this year, students submitted 245 entries to Rochester Review’s annual contest.

Only 3 percent of all books published in the United States are translated from other languages, and only 29 percent of those are by women authors. Rochester is home to several projects aimed at addressing this.

Two University faculty members—William Jones of the Department of Chemistry and Xi-Cheng Zhang of the Institute of Optics—have received prestigious Humboldt Research Awards.

The University rose to number 73 in the annual Open Doors report on international student enrollment, and Forbes ranks Rochester number 27 in its list of “50 Best U.S. Colleges for International Students 2017.”

Levine served as director of the University’s study abroad program from 1991-2016, and was recently was honored with a lifetime achievement award by IES Abroad.

Now in its 20th year, the Polish Film Festival is a fixture in Rochester, and for most of the last two decades, the job of choosing which films to feature has belonged to Bozenna Sobolewska, the administrative assistant of the Skalny Center for Polish and European Studies.

Over the next three years, 18 professors from the eastern European nation will have had the chance to take classes, meet business leaders, and return home to incorporate what they’ve learned into their own programs.

While they may not have been selected for the Hult Prize finals, Team Meliora is continuing their efforts to build homes for refugees, using Lego-style bricks made from recycled plastic.


“Greater awareness of the Japanese-American internment can help the nation avoid repeating the conditions that led to violating the rights of so many innocent people,” says Joanne Bernardi, a University expert on Japanese culture.
