Rochester team receives National Eye Institute grant for restoring vision through retinal regeneration

The imaging system being developed at Rochester builds on work pioneered by David Williams, widely regarded as one of the world’s leading experts on human vision. Williams pioneered the use of adaptive optics technologies for vision applications.

Mellon Grant helps River Campus Libraries establish Digital Humanities Institute

River Campus Libraries has been awarded a $100,672 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to fund a pilot program designed to strengthen librarians’ competencies in digital scholarship. “21st Century Skills: Digital Humanities Institute for Mid-Career Librarians” will launch during the summer of 2015.

Open Letter awarded National Endowment for the Arts grant

The literary translation press recently received one of this year’s largest Arts Works grants in literature. The $60,000 grant will support the publication and promotion of several books in 2015, including Rochester Knockings, a novel based on the Rochester-based religious movement of Spiritualism and the famous Fox Sisters.

Researcher receives $1.25M grant to unlock ‘magic’ behind babies, language

Elika Bergelson, a newly-appointed research assistant professor in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, focuses on understanding how babies learn words between 6-to 18-months old. Funding from the NIH recognizes Bergelson as one of the nation’s “exceptional early career scientist” and will help her pathbreaking work advance more quickly.
