University Brass Choir presents annual ‘Spooktacular’ concert

WHAT:  The Brass Choir will present “Going Nuts! A Halloween Spooktacular,” an evening of rock, metal, and popular music re-purposed for brass instruments. The show, directed by Josef Hanson, will feature Rochester community musicians in a supersized low brass ensemble and a special guest vocal performance by Andrew Polec who graduated from the University of Rochester in 2012 and is a former member of the a cappella group, the Midnight Ramblers, with his rendition of “The Stroke” by Billy Squier and “Big Balls” by AC/DC. The concert will feature a variety of classic songs, including “Thriller” by Michael Jackson; “BYOB” by System of a Down; “War Pigs” by Black Sabbath; and “Big Bottom” by Spinal Tap. “It’s taking old traditions and creating something cutting edge – creating a performance that pushes the bounds of what’s possible,” Polec says.

Note: Costumes are optional, but encouraged. This performance is not appropriate for young children.

TIME, DATE, PLACE:  8 p.m. Friday, Oct 30, in Strong Auditorium on the University of Rochester’s River Campus. The concert is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.
