University named top producer of student Fulbrights for fourth time

The University of Rochester has been named a “top producer” of Fulbright US Student grant awardees for 2019-20. This marks the fourth time in six years, and second consecutive year, that Rochester has made the list, which appears in the Chronicle of Higher Education. Rochester joins Brown, Georgetown, Harvard, Princeton, Villanova, and other institutions.

The Fulbright US Student Grant is sponsored by the State Department and offers opportunities to pursue advanced studies, conduct research, and teach English language and American culture abroad.

During the 2019-20 academic year, 10 Rochester students and alumni are pursuing programs on Fulbright US Student grants. Fourteen were chosen for the prestigious award from a school record of 27 semifinalists; four of those awardees declined the offer.

The Fulbright selection process has begun for 2020-21, with 21 University students selected as semifinalists. Of those, 17 are from the College, and four are from the Eastman School of Music. Thirty-three candidates applied between the College and Eastman.

Recipients will be chosen on a country-by-country basis over the next several months.

The University’s student Fulbright program is administered by the Fellowships Office.
