Charles J. Glass (Mas) is a 1996 recipient of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Award of Merit. Glass is retired from the U.S. Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. He was honored by ASTM for his service on the committee creating standards for emergency medical services.

At the National Conference for Pre-Law Advisers in June, Alexander Stoesen (Mas) chaired a session on "Legal Education at the End of the 20th Century." He also co-chaired a session on "How Can the Law School Admission Council Better Serve Pre-Law Advisers?" Stoesen is professor of history and adviser to the pre-law society at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C.

Bob Topor (Mas) heads Topor Consulting Group International, which provides marketing concepts for institutions of higher education. Topor has written 11 books on the subject. The firm has offices in San Diego and Mountain View, Calif.

James Gleason S (MBA) was named one of "Rochester's Top 50" by Rochester Business Journal in May. Gleason, a University trustee, is president and chief executive officer of Gleason Corp. . . . John E. Littleton (PhD) reports he recently began his 22nd year teaching astronomy and physics at West Virginia University.

Dan F. Bauer (PhD) received the Marquis Distinguished Teaching Award from Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., in May. Bauer is associate professor of anthropology and sociology at the college.

In the Fall 1996 issue, the Review published a note about Patricia Taylor Pivnick W (PhD), who retired in July 1995 after 20 years on the faculty of Nazareth College of Rochester. Unfortunately, we misspelled her name. We regret the error.

1996 was a year of many honors for Gail Melanson Shears W (Mas). During Greek Week at the University in May, she was named 1996 Outstanding Sorority Alumna for her work with Kappa Delta sorority and Hellenic Alumni Council of Fraternity and Sorority Advisors. In June, she was awarded the Order of the Emerald, the highest honor given by the national Kappa Delta Sorority for service to the sorority. In addition to all this, Shears was also chosen as one of 12 teachers in the Northeast to participate in a NASA-sponsored workshop in July on creating new science curriculum. Shears, a sixth-grade teacher in Pittsford, N.Y., was included in the 1996 edition of Who's Who Among American Teachers.

Ronald Bittner S (MBA) was named one of "Rochester's Top 50" by Rochester Business Journal this year. Bittner is chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Frontier Corp. . . . Richard Shorin S (MBA) (see '77 undergraduate). . . . William Strassburg S (MBA) was the subject of a "Profile" feature in July in the Rochester Business Journal. He is president of Chase-Pitkin Home and Garden, a division of Wegmans Food Markets Inc. Strassburg, who joined Wegmans in 1977 as a market analyst, lives in Pittsford with his wife, Tammy, and three children.

Samuel Hubbard Jr. S (MBA), president and chief executive officer of the Alling and Cory Co. since 1986, was named one of "Rochester's Top 50" by Rochester Business Journal this year. Hubbard and his wife, Peggy, have two daughters, Lauren and Allison. . . . William J. Reynolds, Jr. (Mas) (see '76 undergraduate). . . . Christopher F. Schellhorn S (MBA) has been named president and chief operating officer of Visa Interactive, the electronic home banking and bill payment subsidiary of Visa International. Schellhorn had been vice president and general manager of International Verifact in Denver. Visa Interactive is based in Herndon, Va. (See Class Acts). . . . Livingston Van De Water III (PhD) has been awarded a two-year $100,000 grant from Johnson & Johnson. A biomedical researcher in the Department of Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, he will use the grant for an analysis of fibronectin, a protein involved in the wound healing process. He is a member of American Society for Cell Biology, the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Association of Pathologists, and the Wound Healing Society. . . . Frank Vetrano S (MBA) (see '78).

He is president and chief executive officer of the Sear-Brown Group and serves as president of the U.S. Council for International Engineering Practice. . . . Brian C. Mitchell (PhD), president of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania, has been elected chair of the National Association of Independent College and University State Executives. . . . Mark A. Espeland (PhD) has been named a fellow of the American Statistical Association, an honor recognizing his "outstanding professional contribution and leadership in the field of statistical science." Espeland is professor and section head of biostatistics in the Department of Public Health at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C. . . . Stephen Hanson W (Mas) was featured in an "A.M. Profile" in the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle recently. Hanson is director of the Live in Freedom Early (LIFE) program at St. Joseph's Villa in Rochester and a lecturer in drug abuse and psychopharmacology at SUNY Brockport. The LIFE program works with teenage males in a community-based program to help them with drug or alcohol dependency problems. In May, Hanson received the Charlotte Hegedus Community Excellence Award from the Rochester Area National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence. He was also named to the Monroe County Behavioral Health Task Force in January and is serving his second term as president of the Region II Consortium of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. . . . Kent Kiikka S (MBA) (see '81 undergraduate). . . . Robert Wiltenburg (PhD) has been appointed dean of University College in Arts and Sciences, the continuing education division of Washington University in St. Louis, Miss. Wiltenburg, professor of English at the university, is also director of the American Culture Studies Program there.

William Ring S (MBA) has been appointed executive vice president of the Long Island Water Corporation, the largest water supplier in Nassau County, N.Y.
