CONVERSATION STARTER: Carlin Gettliffe ’09 (far right) along with Drew Comrie ’08, Zach Kozick ’08, and Aysedeniz Gokcin ’09E (clockwise from left around the painting) and other members of the student-run Urban Exploring Club prepare for ArtAwake, an art and music festival they hosted as a way to help call attention to Rochester’s architectural history. The group, which is dedicated to exploring and documenting the city’s urban sites and architecture, organized the event at a renovated circa-1900 building near Rochester’s Public Market. “We want to see how art and music will energetically fill a historic building and hopefully start a conversation about how other unused or abandoned buildings in Rochester can be better utilized,” says Gettliffe.
