Let Me Welcome You to Our University

For more than 150 years, the faculty, students, alumni, and staff of Rochester have been challenging themselves as a community of scholars to advance knowledge, to break new intellectual ground, and to improve the lives of those around them, here in Rochester and around the world. The talented, diverse, and dedicated group of people who make Rochester what it is share a nationally recognized record of achievement that I can promise you will only grow in the future.

As you visit our Web site, you will discover much about our programs and their accomplishments: at the College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering, where you’ll find faculty and students who work closely together as scholars to explore new and innovative ideas across a range of disciplines; the Medical Center, where the School of Medicine and Dentistry, School of Nursing, and Eastman Dental Center include some of the nation’s leaders in research and clinical work; the Eastman School of Music, home to world-renowned teaching and performance opportunities; the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration, where business and economic scholarship has international influence; the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development, where scholars dedicate themselves to improving education in the nation’s classrooms; and the Memorial Art Gallery, a vibrant city art museum that introduces the community to top artists from around the region and the world.

I hope, too, that you will discover the intellectual vibrancy and cross-discipline collegiality that Rochester’s close to 96,000 alumni have cherished as they have launched careers as leaders in the worlds of science, medicine, the arts, business, education, and the innumerable other areas in which Rochester graduates can be found.

I invite you to tour our beautiful and historic campuses—either electronically or as a visitor—to learn more about our University, and I encourage you to learn more about the community we call home, a city that shares much of our history, our values, and our bright outlook for the future.

Best regards,

Joel Seligman
