Submission: I’m an avid masturbator and have been since my very early teens. I usually understand when I feel like masturbation but as of late it seems to be a lot more which I know is okay. I masturbate on all fours and the last few times I’ve masturbated to orgasm I’ve been noticing a rather large amount of fluid spraying out of my vagina and making a rather large mess on my bed sheets. Is this normal for girls?

Kudos to you for being aware that masturbating is healthy, safe, and normal! The fluid that you are referring to is likely a form of ejaculation, and it is very normal for those with vaginas. It is not as common for those with vaginas to ejaculate as it is for those with penises, but there is no reason to be worried about it. You may have heard of the term “squirting”, which is sometimes used interchangeably with vaginal ejaculation. While there is not a ton of research out there on vaginal ejaculation, a 2022 literature review estimated that around 5% of those experience squirting or vaginal ejaculation.

Vaginal ejaculate might look like a white, milky fluid, or more commonly it will look very similar to water in both consistency and color. The ejaculate comes from openings on the Skene’s glands on the front wall of the vagina. The reason for vaginal ejaculation is not 100% known, but it is normal, safe, and healthy! In fact, according to a 2013 survey, 78.8% of participants felt that vaginal ejaculation enriched their sex lives. This survey also showed that the mean age of someone’s first ejaculation was 25.4 years. So, while you mentioned that you have recently started to experience an increase in fluids, rest assured that this is not an abnormal experience! Putting a towel down underneath you before masturbating can help to avoid some of the mess that you have experienced.
