There are thousands of different sex toys on the market with different functions and features. Here are a few to explore:
- Sleeves – soft tubes that the penis is inserted into. Sleeves can have a variety of shapes, sizes, and textures to provide a variety of sensations. Some also have vibrating and suctioning features.
- Pumps – devices that create suction around the penis, clitoris, vulva, or nipples. This drives blood flow to the area, increasing sensation and sensitivity.
- Vibrators – objects that vibrate or buzz to stimulate the genitals. Vibes come in all shapes and sizes and can be used on external genitals or inserted in the vagina or anus.
- Dildos – object that is inserted into the vagina, anus, or mouth. Some dildos are designed to look like a penis, while others are more abstract. Dildos are made in a variety of shapes, sizes, and materials. Curved dildos can stimulate the prostate in people assigned male at birth and the g-spot in people assigned female at birth.
Depending on the sex toy you’re looking for, you may be able to purchase one in a store or order online. Here are a few places to start:
- Spencer’s – locations at the Greece Ridge Mall and Eastview Mall
- Show World – locations in Greece and Henrietta
- Medusa’s Adult Boutique – 226 Monroe Ave, Rochester NY 14607
- Some toys can be found at stores like Walmart and Target
- Amazon
A few more things to keep in mind when experimenting with sex toys:
- Read the care instructions that come with the toy to determine the best way to clean and store your toy. Generally, mild soap and warm water is a good way to clean most, but not all, toys.
- Review toy directions for information on how to safely use the toy. Some toys, like pumps, should only be used for a short period of time.
- Silicone-based lubricants can react with silicone toys and cause them to break down. Water-based lubricants are the best to use with toys.
- If you’re inserting a sex toy into your anus, make sure it has a flared base to keep it from going all the way in.
- If you’re sharing a sex toy with your partner, using condoms on the toy can help protect you both from STIs.
