Update: Primary care appointments at UHS

University Health Service (UHS) is currently experiencing an unexpected primary care provider staffing shortage. While available primary care appointments are expected to increase in the coming weeks as the situation is addressed, students right now may notice fewer available appointment slots. During this time, students who need care are still encouraged to contact UHS by calling (585) 275-2662 (appointment line answered at all times).

Students can also call the UHS Health Information Line at (585) 275-1160 to speak with a registered nurse for guidance and self-care options; these options are also listed here. When UHS is closed, a UHS physician is on call for urgent care issues that cannot wait until the office re-opens.

Another option for students who want to be seen sooner than our schedule allows is going to an urgent care center. Click on UR Medicine Urgent Care to see the list of urgent care sites in the Rochester area. The two sites that are closest to the University are the ones in Henrietta and Pittsford. Coverage of visits to urgent care centers will depend on your health insurance plan benefits. You can contact one of the UHS Insurance Advisors for assistance if you have questions about receiving care at an urgent care center. They can be reached at insurance@uhs.rochester.edu or (585) 275-2637.

UHS current provider staff members have been adding extra clinical time to help meet the current demand for appointments, with the long-term solution being to fill the open primary care positions. In addition, a new nurse practitioner has recently joined UHS and will soon be able to see more patients.
