Biography

Maryanne Maves is an experienced educator with a passion for mathematics education and K-12 building leadership. She serves as an Associate Director of Mathematics Education Outreach at the Center and has been a member of the team since 2022, after serving as a consultant for several years. She pursued her BS in elementary and special education at SUNY Geneseo.  Mavesrelocated to the Rochester area after graduation to begin her teaching career and to obtain her MS in elementary education with a focus on curriculum from SUNY Brockport. She later attended Warner Graduate School of Education at the University of Rochester to obtain NYS certificates in both school building and school district leadership.

 

Prior to joining the Center team, Maves served in a variety of roles during her 16 years in K-12 education, including an elementary teacher, mathematics coach, assistant principal, and principal.  In her role at the Center, she collaborates directly with K-12 teachers, coaches, and school leaders, serving as a professional learning facilitator, mentor, and coach. She partners with districts across the region and is also currently supporting multiple NSF-funded grants. Maves leverages strong relationships with stakeholders to support their understanding of content and pedagogical knowledge of mathematics.  She is committed to supporting educators in creating equitable mathematics learning environments that promote student agency.
