Horizons at Warner is on pause and not being offered at this time

Swimming

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the youth drowning rate is 2-3 times higher than the national average in predominantly minority communities such as the community Horizons at Warner faithfully serves. Due to dangers like this and the fact that most students come to Horizons at Warner unable to swim and afraid of the water, it is crucial that every Horizons student learn to swim.

Twice per week, every student takes a 30-minute swim lesson with a Red Cross Certified Swim Instructor, who is accompanied by at least one certified lifeguard and multiple TAs, TAITs, or volunteers. In 2018, 100% of students maintained or improved their Red Cross Certified Swim Level.

In addition to teaching students to swim, these lessons help them build outstanding self-esteem, encourage dedication to achieve a goal, teach resilience by overcoming fears and obstacles, inspire a healthy lifestyle, open doors to future employment, and finally, allow them to have fun!
