Overview

The Department of History is committed to teaching, scholarship, and intellectual rigor in the context of close attention to students' needs and interests. We offer programs of study for both undergraduates and graduates.

Undergraduate Program

The department offers programs of study leading to a BA degree and a BA degree with honors. The department also offers a minor in history. We provide our undergraduate students with opportunities to complete internships, seminars, and honors theses. They can also take advantage of a series of distinguished outside speakers, as well as symposia and workshops that address graduate students' research, teaching, and career concerns.

Graduate Program

The department offers both MA and PhD degrees through a small and select program which uniquely combines the personal attention of a tutorial system with the resources of a major research institution. While in residence, students have access to distinguished faculty, a world-class library, and the opportunity to interact with other leading departments.
