Surfacing New Joint Therapies

Center at Highland Hospital became the only hospital in the region to offer hip resurfacing, a new procedure aimed at patients who are too young to undergo a total hip replacement but are in pain from their worn-out hip joint. Unlike total hip replacement, which replaces bone in both the pelvis and the thigh bone, hip resurfacing barely touches the thigh bone, preserving enough bone so that a patient can safely proceed to a total hip replacement down the road if necessary. In the meantime, patients are able to get on with a pain-free life, with the bonus of being able once again to enjoy impact activities like running or karate after the surgery.
