Emerging Parternships in Health
The University of Rochester Medical
Center continues to reach beyond its
campus, collaborating with other organizations
to improve access to care and
overall community health. For example,
in a partnership with Unity Health, a
clear path to treatment for patients with
eating disorders is now in existence for
upstate New York patients. Golisano
Children's Hospital at Strong physicians
provide intensive outpatient counseling
and, when necessary, refer teens to a new
specialized facility at Unity St. Mary's
for further treatment.
Another collaboration with Unity
is a unique State Department of
Health pilot program through which
Strong Memorial cardiac specialists
provide oversight and work together
with Unity physicians on-site to perform
nonemergency coronary angioplasties
and stenting procedures. The program
makes nonemergency treatment readily
available to patients who live on the
northwest side of the region.
The Medical Center also worked
with Rochester General Hospital to
solve a neurologist shortage by forming
a partnership with Rochester
General Hospital. Under the agreement,
Rochester General is now an affiliate
of the Medical Center's neuromedicine
program, with the Medical Center
neurologists located on-site at Rochester
General, providing additional staff to
the hospital's Stroke Center and general
neurological care. The Medical Center
plans to recruit eight new full-time
faculty neurologists to serve at Rochester
General.
