The transformation of cancer care at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center has begun with the construction of a new 163,000-square-foot facility at the southeast corner of the Medical Center campus. Construction began on the new home of the cancer center last May and is expected to be completed in spring 2008.

"This new cancer center building raises the bar for cancer care and research here in Rochester and around the world," says Richard Fisher, director of the Wilmot Cancer Center and cancer services for Strong Health.

All cancer care will be consolidated into this new state-of-the-art, four-story building, which will be a model for patient-centered care. The new building doubles the amount of space for clinical and translational research, bringing scientists and doctors together to help engineer better therapies. It also will provide an unprecedented level of privacy for patients seeking the latest, cutting-edge cancer treatment.
