Warner Hosts National Writing Project Site
With the help of a $30,000 grant from
the National Writing Project, the
University's Warner School of Education
created a professional development
program that will help local teachers
improve the quality of student writing.
The Genesee Valley Writing Project,
which is housed at Warner, provides
teachers and students from Monroe and
surrounding counties with a four-week
summer workshop, school-based
in-service workshops, collaborative
programs, and teacher study groups.
The emphasis on writing is particularly
timely because many school districts are
putting literacy at the top of their agendas.
The program is the local arm of the
National Writing Project, a federally
funded professional development
program with nearly 200 sites.
Meg Callahan, assistant professor in
teaching and curriculum at the Warner
School, is leading the local project.
