Connecting Graduates with the Community
The University, in partnership with other
area colleges, is linking young professionals
with Rochester youth-service agencies
through a new fellowship program.
Rochester Youth Year fellowships
give new alumni a year of intensive
community service while keeping their
talent in support of area youth.
"We were really trying to develop a
new kind of collaboration among area
colleges drawing on our various strengths
as well as focusing on ways for students to
deliver their talents to Rochester youth,"
says Jody Asbury, dean of students.
Participants are full-time staff
members at their agencies for the year,
receive additional training, and assist
in a new University leadership seminar
that features local and national figures
discussing their views and experiences on
leadership and civic engagement.
Funding has been provided by the
Rochester Area Community Foundation,
the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation
for Entrepreneurship, a University
alumnus, and SUNY Geneseo.
