Engineering the Americas
In 2007, the University of Rochester
joined universities from seven other
countries and Miami, Fla., in a program
meant to give engineering students more
international experience as part of their
education.
Engineering the Americas brings
together 40 students from Rochester, the
University of Miami, Argentina, Brazil,
Canada, Chile, Ecuador, Panama, and
Mexico to hone their skills to better
meet the challenges in the increasingly
global field of engineering.
Students in the program attend
meetings at some of the participating
universities with leaders from industry,
academia, and government in order to
build lasting professional relationships.
Rochester students attended a
meeting in Miami in January, and
the University of Rochester hosted a
meeting here in June. Topics for discussion
included leadership, innovation,
entrepreneurship, technology policy,
and politics. Students also interact
with prominent researchers from each
university through the program and will
get to visit world-renowned laboratories.
