The University of Rochester is a member of CIRTL: The Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning. CIRTL is an NSF-funded consortium of universities from across the country whose mission is to enhance excellence in undergraduate education through the development of a national faculty committed to implementing and advancing effective teaching practices for diverse learners as part of successful and varied professional careers, particularly in the STEM disciplines.

CIRTL has a variety of upcoming events; the next set of events for graduate students is the Creating Effective Scientific Posters series, aimed at providing you an opportunity to develop and strengthen your scientific posters.

Presenter Adam Steinberg will explain:

  • What goes on a scientific poster and why it's effective;
  • Techniques to capture your audience and enhance the understanding of your scientific data;
  • How to navigate Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft PowerPoint;
  • How to cater to viewers and how they read posters.

Part Two: Instructor and Peer Feedback

Students upload their draft posters online for instructor and peer feedback.

Part Three: Design Discussion

A one-hour virtual session discussing student poster designs and provide feedback
