Why did you choose UR for graduate education (other than for your advisor)?

My recruitment visit solidified my interest in attending the University of Rochester (U of R). Even though the visit was held over Zoom due to the pandemic, I felt welcomed by current students and faculty who were eager to share their research and experiences with me. I felt very comfortable asking questions about graduate student life and potential research projects. Now, as a third-year student, I can say that this friendly environment holds true, as the staff and students are extremely approachable, and there are helpful support resources offered.

What resources or services (social, academic, or anything else) have you found most helpful at UR?

The Kearns Center and Greene Center staff have been particularly helpful to me throughout my studies. I recently sought funding to present my research at a conference and was able to apply for travel funding through the Kearns Center. In addition, the Greene Center hosts professional development workshops and can assist in finding experiential learning opportunities, which have been instrumental in shaping my career goals.

What is your favorite spot or spots on or off-campus (restaurant, festival, natural trail, or whatever) in Rochester?

Rochester has a lot of great parks; there's Genesee Valley Park right near campus and Highland Park, which hosts the Lilac Festival in the Spring. Other than those, I enjoy walking and biking along the Erie Canal and then grabbing ice cream at Pittsford Farms Dairy.
