ROCHESTER ATHLETICS
A Message from the Director of Athletics—
George VanderZwaag
It’s an exciting time for Rochester
Athletics. In August, we will
unveil the latest addition to the
Brian F. Prince Athletic Complex,
the Boehning Varsity House.
Located on the first two levels of
Genesee Hall at the south end
of Fauver Stadium, the Varsity
House will include new locker,
sports medicine, and equipment
rooms, creating a true outdoor athletic complex that
fully accommodates our outdoor varsity teams.
It is a transformative project that positions us to attract
the very best students. We are deeply indebted to Chris
Boehning ’87, ’88 (MS) and his wife, Julie, and many
other Friends of Rochester Athletics, for helping bring
the Varsity House to fruition.
Out on the fields, our athletes wrapped up our 17th-
straight winning year. Both men’s and women’s
basketball advanced to the NCAA tournament, with the
men’s team reaching the Elite 8. Men’s golf also qualified
for the NCAA championships.
Most notably, Kylee Bartlett ’19 captured the national
title in pentathlon at the NCAA indoor track and field
championships and the national heptathlon crown at
the outdoor NCAAs. She is our first individual national
champion since 2006 and the third athlete ever in our
history to win multiple individual national titles.
At our annual banquet in May, we honored our seniors
and recognized several outstanding athletes, including
Laura Lockard ’17, who received the newly named
Terrence L. Gurnett Award. A men’s soccer alumnus,
Terry coached women’s soccer for more than 30 years,
accumulating more than 400 victories and leading the
team to back-to-back NCAA titles. The award name
reflects Terry’s longtime dedication to the University
and is incredibly well deserved.
There is much to be proud of in Rochester Athletics and
even more to look forward to. Thank you, as always, for
being a part of our team.
