In Appreciation

TENNIS, ANYONE?

Alumni with Andre Agassi leanings can look forward to a rousing game of tennis with College undergraduates at the inaugural match in the Peter Lyman Tennis Center during this October's Homecoming celebration. Construction of the project was scheduled to be under way by April 1, with completion by August.

Peter Lyman '47, considered Rochester's tennis and squash king in the 1950s, was Rochester tennis coach for 42 years. The tennis center, a gift to honor Lyman for his lifelong commitment and support of the Rochester tennis program, is made possible through the gifts of 107 almuni, who have raised nearly $400,000.

Peter Lyman Tennis Center committee members are Howdy Pratt '60, '66 (PhD), chair; Larry Bloch '75; Matt DiBiase '82; Alex Gaeta '83, '91 (PhD); Tom Forbes '59; Don Liebers '54; Joe Mantell '73; Sal Mauro '91; Jim McKinlay '69; Jeff Miller '66; Bill Weiss '78, and Bob Swartout '83, '92S (MBA).

OR, MAYBE SOME HEADS-UP BASKETBALL?

Chuck Resler '30 says he was "a lousy athlete" as an undergraduate, but he's a super fan, especially at basketball games. And his alma mater is grateful for his lifetime contributions to undergraduate sports at the University, including endowing the annual Chuck Resler Men's and Women's Basketball invitationals.

"Chuck has always preferred to be a behind-the-scenes guy," says Jack Kreckel, associate vice president of development. "But he's the kind of active supporter who keeps the University running, and running well."

Resler, retired from Eastman Kodak Company, is a member of the University's Hall of Fame. He was awarded the University of Rochester Associates Medal in 1979, in recognition of his more than half a century of significant service.
