CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL AT STRONG RENAMED FOR GOLISANO

The state-of-the-art care available at Strong Memorial Hospital for children who need medical attention is poised to become even more advanced, thanks to a $14 million gift from Rochester businessman B. Thomas Golisano.

The founder, president, chairman, and CEO of the payroll services company Paychex Inc. announced his donation in April as part of a $30 million drive to upgrade the services and facilities at the region's only children's hospital.

In recognition of the gift-the largest single donation ever by a living donor to either the University or the Medical Center-the children's hospital at Strong has been renamed Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong.

"I am inspired by the noble work that these medical professionals do," Golisano said in announcing the gift.

Located within Strong Memorial Hospital, the children's hospital has 123 beds. With the exception of pediatric heart transplantation, for which the hospital is licensed, it offers practically every medical service and treatment children may need.

They include treatments and therapies for chronic conditions such as diabetes and asthma, as well leading-edge surgeries-such as kidney, liver, and small-bowel transplantation-that are usually reserved for larger cities.

The hospital's Pediatric Brain Tumor Center is designated as a national Center of Excellence, recognized for its highly trained staff of pediatric brain-tumor specialists.
