1949
Alejandro Zaffaroni (PhD), ’51M (Flw), ’72M
(HNR), founder and director emeritus of the pharmaceutical company ALZA, received
the Bower Award for business leadership from the Franklin Institute Committee
on Science and Arts for his role in the development of the birth control pill
and transdermal patches.
1958
Richard Sarkis (MD) (see ’54RC undergraduate).
1963
Albert Wiley (MD) writes, “Last fall I became
director of the Radiation Emergency Assistance Center, a World Health Organization
collaborating center for national and international radiation emergency response,
based in Oak Ridge, Tenn.”
1965
Svend Bruun (MD) was named Community Clinician
of the Year by the Worcester (Mass.) North District Medical Society.
1974
John Morris (MD) was one of two neurologists awarded
the Potamkin Prize by the American Academy of Neurology for his research on
Alzheimer’s disease.
1977
Donald Senger (PhD) is a member of the scientific
resource board at Peregrine Pharmaceuticals.
1979
Radiologist Jacqueline Leff Wellman (MD) has joined
the staff of the Milford Regional Medical Center in Milford, Mass. She is also
a clinical assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
1982
Kenneth Kaitin (PhD) was the keynote speaker at
the Boston Biorelationships conference last June. Kenneth is the director of
the Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development.
1987
Sarah Whitman (MD) writes, “After 14 years
in academic psychiatry, I’ll be leaving to start a private practice, specializing
in pain management. I’ll also be a psychiatrist at a Philadelphia university.”
1988
Leslie Bunce (Res) is director of medical affairs
for INC Research.
1993
Family practitioner David OuYang (MD) is a member
of the Derry (N.H.) Medical Center.
1997
Laureen Burke (MD) (see ’93RC undergraduate).
2001
Matthew Funderburk (MD) and Jennifer Schum were
married on October 30 in Fairport, N.Y. Matthew is chief resident at Strong
Memorial Hospital, and Jennifer is completing a postdoctoral fellowship in geropsychology
at Strong.
2003
Terry Lowry (Res) is a cardiovascular surgeon
at the Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, S.C.
2004
Mitchell Douglass (MD) and Lindsy Myers were married
on April 24, 2004, in Kansas City, Mo. . . . Katherine
Kowalski (MS) (see ’92RC undergraduate).
