classnotesHISTORIC DEBUT: Jack End ’40E directs the Eastman Jazz Ensemble in its first public performance, a November 28, 1967, concert at Strong Auditorium. An outgrowth of the Eastman School’s then brand-new Jazz Laboratory, the ensemble was one of two student groups established “in recognition of the growing demand for greater versatility on the part of performers in all areas of music,” according to the night’s program.
