P. 4
Now and forever.
Although this report addresses the fiscal year 2020, it
will reach you in 2021, after a year unlike any other.
Never have we—as a collective, global community—
experienced what we have experienced, together.
We’ve all been affected by COVID-19 and a world
fraught with societal issues.
But there is hope. It comes to me every day, too—as
I walk through the Medical Center or across the
Eastman Quad; as I talk with students, patients, and
community members; and as I engage with alumni,
friends, and people like you—those who have
entrusted our University with their generosity.
Hope also comes to me through the stories featured
in this report. Each one underscores the value of
endowed giving.
Endowed gifts make it possible for us to keep our
eyes on the future, especially when we must address
many immediate issues and needs related to these
challenging times. They allow us to look up and to
look forward—and to build on the fundamentals that
form the cornerstones of this University.
Thank you for your generosity and for providing us
all a wellspring of hope. It’s what the world—and the
University of Rochester—needs now and forever.
