Coming soon: the Sloan Performing Arts Center

The 30,000-square-foot Sloan Performing Arts Center had its soft opening at the end of August, adding a much anticipated new building to the University’s River Campus in time for the fall semester. The building will be fully functional by the end of the calendar year. The Sloan Center is made possible thanks to the generosity of University Life Trustee Thomas Sloan ’65, ’67 (MS) and Linda Sloan ’67, and other lead donors. Read more about the Sloan Center and get a behind-the-scenes look at artist Jay Yan’s installation of a specially commissioned mosaic that will span most of the building’s interior.

FOR STUDENTS

Take an online course through Worldwide University Network

Undergraduates in Arts, Sciences & Engineering have the opportunity to take an online course through the Worldwide University Network. Rochester students are able to choose from a handful of courses offered online for the fall 2021 semester through Brazil’s Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. There is no charge for enrolling in these courses and students will need to seek approval from a faculty member from the authorized approval list in order to use a course to count toward a major, minor, or cluster. If you are interested in taking a course, email Theodore Pagano at the Center for Education Abroad by Wednesday, September 8.

FOR FACULTY AND STAFF

Elect e-delivery

With open enrollment for 2022 benefits around the corner, now is the time to enroll in the University’s electronic delivery program, which means receiving all benefits-related materials via email instead of physical mailing. Enrolling guarantees you receive information more quickly and efficiently and also promotes environmental efforts. To enroll or verify you are enrolled, go to HRMS and follow the path Main Menu> Self-Service> Benefits> Elect E-delivery.

Prepare pets for your return to on-site work

As many University employees return to on-site work, those who have pets at home are facing an additional adjustment. Pet adoptions spiked during the pandemic and many animals got used to their owners being at home and working remotely. Human Resources encourages employees to learn more from Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, about easing and preventing pet separation anxiety when returning to on-site work in this video. Plus, get advice on pet behavior and find additional resources for pet owners by visiting the Humane Network.
